To be eligible for the ARES Belgian Government Scholarships, applicants must:

  • Nationality: Be a national of, reside in, and work in one of the 31 eligible ARES partner countries.
  • Academic Qualifications:
    • For specialised master’s and continuing education courses: Hold a diploma comparable to a 2nd cycle diploma (300 ECTS credits) from a Belgian university.
    • For specialised bachelor’s programs: Hold a diploma comparable to a 1st cycle diploma (180 ECTS credits) from Belgian higher education.
  • Experience: Have at least two years of relevant professional experience after completing a bachelor’s degree for specialised bachelors, and a master’s degree for specialised masters and continuing education courses.
  • Age: The candidate must have held the relevant academic degree for a maximum of 20 years at the time the course begins. This maximum period is increased by one year per event of childbirth and/or adoption.
  • Bachelor’s and Specialised Master’s Degrees: Maximum of 12 months.
  • Continuing Training: Maximum of 2 to 6 months.

The scholarship covers:

  • International Travel Expenses: Fully funded round-trip airfare.
  • Subsistence Allowance: A monthly stipend to cover living expenses.
  • Tuition Fees: Full coverage of tuition fees (only for bachelor’s and specialised master’s degrees).
  • Visa Expenses: Exceptional costs associated with visa applications.
  • Insurance: Health and accident insurance during the stay.
  • Indirect Mission Expenses: For continuing education programs only.

  1. Create a Giraf Account: If you don’t already have an account, create one or log in with your existing account.
  2. Access the Application Form: Navigate to “Application for international training” > “My tasks” > “Competitive calls.”
  3. Complete the Form: Fill in the application form. You can save and return to it multiple times.
  4. Submit Your Application: Once the form is complete, click “Submit my application.” After submission, your application can be viewed but not modified.
