The Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO) is a non-profit, non-governmental international organization established in 2018. Its founding members include the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and 36 other scientific institutions, universities, and global organizations. ANSO is committed to enhancing regional and global capabilities in science and technology, improving human livelihoods, and fostering broader cooperation and communication in science and technology.
The CAS-ANSO Scholarship (formerly known as ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents) was launched in 2019 with the mission of training and cultivating future scientists worldwide. This prestigious scholarship program offers two categories: degree and non-degree programs. The degree program supports 100–200 Master’s students and 300 PhD students annually at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), and various CAS institutes across China.
In 2022, a sub-category of the CAS-ANSO Scholarship—the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship—was introduced. This initiative prioritizes (but is not limited to) candidates from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and women scholars, with 40 PhD slots awarded annually to students from developing nations.
CAS, as the leading founding member of ANSO, provides the primary funding for the CAS-ANSO Scholarship. The ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship is co-funded by TWAS and UNESCO, both founding members of ANSO. ANSO warmly welcomes collaboration from other institutions and parties to enrich this global scholarship initiative.
