Study at University of Tokyo: Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship 2026

This is a program through which students are able to study at a Japanese university with a scholarship from the Japanese government, specifically the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho (MEXT)). Through this program, UTokyo only accepts students as “Research students” and “Undergraduate students”. For details, be sure to refer to the Application Guideline corresponding to the year for which you are applying.

1. Category

1) Research student:
Master’s, Doctorate and Professional Degree Programs (regular graduate student) or graduate international research student.

2) Undergraduate student:
Regular undergraduate student(*)
(*)Each undergraduate student will be enrolled at a preparatory school designated by MEXT for a one-year intensive course in the Japanese language and other subjects necessary for preparation for proceeding to university.  The preparatory course lasts for one year. A grantee who has completed the preparatory education will go on to a university designated by MEXT upon passing its entrance examination.
The university whose examination a grantee will take is decided by MEXT in consultation with the university and the preparatory school and in comprehensive consideration of the results of the academic examinations in the primary screening held in his/her home country, academic achievement at the preparatory school, the grantee’s proposed major subject, and the receiving capacity of the university. Therefore, please note that applicants who wish to enter UTokyo may not necessarily be able to take the entrance examinations for UTokyo.

Both of the 2 types below should be applied for before coming to Japan.

1) Embassy Recommendation
Applications for this category are made directly through Japanese embassies or consular offices outside Japan.Scholarship recipients are recruited and initially screened by the Japanese embassy (or consulate general, depending on the country). Because the application process differs according to the country in which the Japanese embassy is located,please inquire at the Japanese embassy or consulate general in your country for details.

2) University Recommendation
For this category, UTokyo selects and recommends research students directly to MEXT as candidates for the Japanese government scholarship. The majority of applicants will be international students on inter-university student exchange agreements. Since the period of application varies depending on the Graduate School, please contact the relevant department in the Graduate School of your choice.

Study at University of Liverpool: Liverpool Advancement Scholarship 2026

For entry in September 2026, the Liverpool Advancement Scholarship offers a generous tuition fee discount to high-achieving international students from select countries.

If you’re a new student from an eligible country who hasn’t studied with University of Liverpool before, you could be eligible for a generous tuition fee discount of £5,000.

1. Eligible countries

If you’re from one of the following countries, you may be eligible for this scholarship:

We won’t be able to offer you this scholarship if you:

– Studied at University of Liverpool International College or Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU)
– Will be studying online
-Are having your fees paid by a sponsor, such as a government, commercial organisation or employer, on your behalf
-Are joining a PGCert, Professional Doctorate (including DDSc awards), MPhil, MArch, MRes or PhD.

No application is required. The scholarship is automatically awarded to all eligible students who meet the criteria. Once the Admissions team receives and processes a student’s undergraduate results, the award will be confirmed in their official offer letter.

Students who have applied for or intend to study part-time will have any tuition fee discount they are eligible to receive applied on a pro-rata basis over the duration of their course. For example, a student studying over two years would receive 50% of the tuition fee discount in each year.

Students who do not yet have their final results and subsequently achieve a First Class undergraduate degree may be eligible to upgrade to the Liverpool Excellence Scholarship for Postgraduates. In such cases, they would receive an increased tuition fee discount of £7,000.

This award holds no exchangeable cash value. The institution reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship at any time, including if programme capacities are reached.

Global Talent Scholarships are awarded automatically to international students who meet the eligibility criteria outlined above* – there is no application or registration process. The scholarship is worth £3,000 per academic year, up to a total of £12,000 over a standard four-year degree. The first £3,000 will be deducted from your tuition fees when you enroll in your first year. The scholarship is renewable each year, subject to achieving an average of 65% or above in your academic results (this requirement must be met in each academic year for the scholarship to be renewed in subsequent years).

Study at University of London: GREAT Scholarships 2026

GREAT Scholarships 2026, launched by the British Council’s Study UK campaign together with a number of other UK universities, supports students from 18 countries to access world-class UK higher education opportunities.

The Study UK campaign is offering scholarships from 71 UK universities to students across 18 countries around the world. It offers an exciting opportunity for students from these countries to get financial support to pursue postgraduate study in the UK. The scholarship programme offers awards of a minimum of £10,000 to students pursuing 1-year postgraduate study in the UK. The scholarship amount will be deducted from tuition fees.

1. Eligible programmes

All full-time postgraduate taught (on campus) programmes beginning in September 2026 are eligible. Part-time and two-year programmes are not eligible.

To be considered for an award, applicants must:

– Be an overseas fee-paying student.
– Hold an Indonesian or Pakistani passport.
– Hold an offer for a 1-year postgraduate taught programme at SOAS University of London beginning in September 2026.

Awards will be based on a combination of academic merit and the information given on the application form.

The GREAT Scholarships are sponsored by SOAS University of London and the British Council.

If you are successful in your application for this scholarship, you will be required to pay the CAS deposit of £4,000 as part of the conditions to accept the award. The CAS deposit is only refundable in a limited set of circumstances. 

You should be mindful of this if you are accepting this scholarship with a conditional offer.

You can apply for multiple scholarships and discounts, but only one can be accepted and applied to your tuition fees. Scholarships and discounts (e.g. alumni, family, or partnership discount) cannot be combined, so if you’re successful in more than one, you will need to choose the option with the highest value.

May Quon Undergraduate Scholarship

Students with a superior admission average and self-declared financial need entering their first year of an undergraduate degree on a student visa permit who are Chinese or Hong Kong citizens could receive up to CAN $100,000 (payable over 4 years).

Cora Martinson International Scholarship

Students with superior academic achievement entering any year of an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty on a student visa permit could receive up to CAN $56,000 (payable over 4 years). Selection is based on academic standing with preference given to students with indicated financial need.

University of Alberta Global Citizen Scholarship for IB Diploma International Students

Students with superior academics, strong International Baccalaureate Diploma academic standing, indicated financial need and demonstrated leadership who will be entering their first year of an undergraduate degree program from Aga Khan Academies operating under the AKA agency of the Aga Khan Development Network, who will be studying in Canada on a student visa permit could receive up to CAN $53,000 per year for a maximum of 4 years.

Study at Tsinghua University: Chinese Government Scholarship Program 2026 

In order to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and people around the world and promote China’s exchange and cooperation with other countries in various fields, the Chinese government sets up scholarships for talented students and scholars to pursue higher education or conduct research in Chinese universities.

The China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as “CSC”), entrusted by China’s Ministry of Education, is responsible for the admission, enrollment and administration of Chinese Government Scholarship recipients.

CGS includes a series of subprograms. Refer to the CSC website for further information about the CGS programs.

Application for CGS of Program Category Type B through Tsinghua University

Type B generally refers to CGS programs responsible by Chinese universities under the CGS-Chinese University Program. Such as CGS High-Level Postgraduate Program.

1. Eligibility
  • To be eligible, applicants must:

    I. Be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health both mentally and physically.

    II. Be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs; be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs (*Bachelor’s degree holders who plan to pursue doctoral degrees at Tsinghua University could also apply for CGS Type A or B if eligible).

    III. Have acquired the Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 4 when applying for Chinese-taught master’s or doctoral programs. That who has obtained a degree from a Chinese university with Chinese-taught do not need to provide a HSK certificate, but he must provide a proof of Chinese-taught issued by the previous degree-awarding institution.

     

    Ⅳ. Have been pre-admitted by THU and recommended for CGS by the pre-admitted schools/departments. Otherwise, the application will not be considered or processed by Tsinghua University.

    Ⅴ. Have not been offered other scholarships for prospective graduate study at Tsinghua University or nominated as a CGS candidate to the CSC by other university.

    Ⅵ. Meet other requirements of CGS Type B programs, such as applicable programs/majors, nationalities, and so on. Please consult the scholarship contact at schools/departments for details in advance.

  • Full CGS: tuition fees, free university dormitory or accommodation subsidy, stipend, and comprehensive medical insurance.

    The Partial CGS includes one or some items from the Full CGS coverage.

  • Step 1 Pre-admission

    An applicant shall apply for graduate programs at Tsinghua University for pre-admission and reach the schools/departments for a recommendation.

    *Applicants are highly recommended to apply before December 15, 2025. Otherwise, you may miss the deadline of some CGS Type B programs.

    Step 2 Complete the system application of the CSC

    An applicant shall fill in, submit, and download the CGS Online Application form via the CSC System when informed by the pre-admitted schools/departments. For specific steps, please refer to Attachment 1: Instructions for Chinese Government Scholarship Information System.

    *Keep in touch with your applied schools/departments and check your email regularly. If applicants cannot be reached or fail to complete the CGS online application as required in time, it will be treated as a renouncement of the candidacy.

    Step 3 Recommendation of Schools/Departments

    Schools/Departments make recommendations.

    *CGS applications without the recommendation of schools/departments will not be processed.

    Step 4 Nomination of Tsinghua University to the CSC

    Tsinghua University selects CGS candidates based on recommendations of schools/departments according to requirements of higher authorities, then nominates them to the CSC.

    Step 5 Experts Review and Approval by the CSC

    The CSC organizes designated universities and experts concerned to examine applicants’ eligibility and academic performance before finalizing the short-list candidates and notifying the results to Tsinghua University.

  • Please refer to Attachment 2: Chinese Government Scholarship Application. The documents should be submitted online. CGS applicants do not need to mail the hard copies to Tsinghua University.
  • I. Annual Review is strictly required for all CGS holders according to the regulations of the CSC. The Annual Review includes academic performance, learning attitude, attendance, student conduct, rewards and punishments, etc. Within the scholarship duration, the students who pass the Annual Review will continue to receive the scholarship for the following year. Otherwise, the scholarship will be suspended or terminated.

    II. Applying for CGS through Tsinghua University is highly competitive. Tsinghua University usually selects candidates from pre-admitted applicants of remarkable merit.

    III. Applicants should complete the CGS online application as soon as possible after being informed by the schools/departments. Considering the required application documents and their period of validation, applicants should prepare the documents properly in advance.

Study at Shanghai Jiaotong University: Chinese Government Scholarship Program 2026

In order to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and people around the world and promote China’s exchange and cooperation with other countries in various fields, the Chinese government sets up scholarships for talented students and scholars to pursue higher education or conduct research in Chinese universities.

I. Application Methods —— Undergraduate Chinese Program
  • Students applying for Chinese Government Scholarship should directly contact the local Chinese Embassy or Consulate. When completing the scholarship application form, the applicant should select Shanghai Jiao Tong University as the first priority. The scholarship content is subject to the website of China Scholarship Council. As for accommodation, SJTU does not provide free dormitory, but provides accommodation subsidy (1,000 CNY per month).
  • Students applying for SJTU scholarships can click the option “Apply for scholarship” when completing the online application form. Excellent students will be awarded the scholarships in the following form.

Study at Nanjing University: Chinese Government Scholarship Program 2026

To support students and scholars from around the world in studying and conducting research at Chinese higher education institutions, enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and people of other countries, and promote exchanges and cooperation between China and other nations in education, science and technology, culture, economy, and trade, the Chinese government established the Chinese Government Scholarship. Since 2008, with the approval of the Chinese Ministry of Education, Nanjing University has been awarding this scholarship to outstanding international master’s and doctoral students applying to study at the university.

I. Category of Majors

You may find your major in the category of majors

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.

2. Educational background and age requirements:

– Applicants for master’s degree studies must have a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.

– Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have a master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

Prospective graduates who have not yet received their graduation certificate must provide a pre-graduation certificate issued by their current institution, proving that they are expected to graduate successfully and obtain their diploma before July of the enrollment year.

3. Language requirements:

For programs taught in Chinese:

– Admission requirements:
– Science/Engineering: HSK Level 4 (score ≥ 180)
– Humanities/Social Sciences: HSK Level 5 (score ≥ 180)

– Graduation requirements:
– Science/Engineering: HSK Level 5 (score ≥ 180)
– Humanities/Social Sciences: HSK Level 6 (score ≥ 180)

For programs taught in English:

– Admission requirements:
– IELTS score ≥ 6.0, or
– TOEFL score ≥ 85 (or TOEFL Essentials score ≥ 9; Nanjing University’s TOEFL code is C288), or
– Duolingo English Test score ≥ 100 (https://englishtest.duolingo.cn/applicants)

– Graduation requirement:
– Pass HSK Level 3 (score ≥ 180)

Applications from candidates who do not meet the language requirements will not be accepted.

Students who have already received other Chinese scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic year are not eligible to apply. If discovered, their eligibility for the Chinese Government Scholarship will be revoked, and they must return any funds already received. Those who intentionally conceal their funding status will be disqualified and barred from applying for the Chinese Government Scholarship for three years.

1. Scholarship Duration:
The duration of the Master‘s program is 2–3 years, and the Doctoral program is 4 years.

2. Disciplinary and Annual Review Requirements for Scholarship Students:
Scholarship students must engage in full-time study at Nanjing University and strictly abide by all university rules and regulations. All learning, research, and thesis writing must be completed on campus. Remote coursework is not supported, and transfer to other universities is not permitted. In principle, students are not allowed to leave the university during the semester, including for returning home for visits, conducting research abroad, or internships, except during official holidays. In special circumstances, students must submit an application along with consent documents from their supervisor and department, and obtain approval from the College of Overseas Education before taking temporary leave. Deliberate violation of regulations or unauthorized leave during the semester will result in suspension or cancellation of scholarship eligibility.

In accordance with the regulations of the China Scholarship Council, all scholarship students in this program must participate in an annual scholarship review. The review takes place between March and May each year. Only those who pass the review may continue to receive the scholarship. Students who do not pass the annual review will have their scholarship suspended or canceled.

3. Full Scholarship Coverage Includes:
1). Tuition Fees: Exempted.
2). Living Allowance: Master’s students will receive a monthly living allowance of RMB 3,000, and doctoral students will receive RMB 3,500 for the duration of the scholarship.
3). Medical Insurance: RMB 800 per academic year. Scholarship students are required to purchase comprehensive medical insurance during their period of study.
4). Accommodation: Students may reside free of charge in the international student dormitories of Nanjing University for the duration of the scholarship.

1. Between November 1, 2025, and January 20, 2026, log in to the Nanjing University International Student Online Service System to complete online registration and application (Please select “Chinese Government Scholarship Type B” for the study program).

The following documents must be uploaded during the application:

1) Highest academic certificate;
2) Academic transcripts during the study period (Applicants for doctoral programs must submit undergraduate and master’s degree transcripts);
3) Two recommendation letters from associate professors or above, or professionals with equivalent academic titles (Provided by professors or associate professors, should include the applicant’s study objectives in China, the cooperation between the Chinese and foreign supervisors or inter-university exchange details, and an evaluation of the applicant’s comprehensive ability and future potential);
4) HSK certificate (for Chinese-taught programs) / IELTS, TOEFL, or Duolingo English Test score report (for English-taught programs);
5) Personal Statement (using the Template of Personal Statement);
6) List of published articles and research achievements in the professional field, along with representative works or abstracts (if applicable);
7) Physical Health Examination Record (The Nanjing University Foreigner Physical Examination Form is invalid if any section is missing, if no personal photo is attached or the photo is not stamped, or if it lacks the doctor’s and hospital’s signatures and stamps. The examination results are valid for 6 months);
8) Passport homepage;
9) Non-criminal record certificate (valid for 6 months);
10) Applicants for doctoral programs must provide a summary of their master’s thesis;
11) Applicants for Architecture and Urban Planning programs must submit a portfolio of relevant works.

2. After submitting the application, you will receive initial review feedback within 3 business days. If notified to supplement materials, please submit the required documents before the application deadline.

3. In late February 2026, all applications that pass the initial review will undergo a further review by the relevant academic departments. The review results are expected to be announced via system messages and emails in early March 2026. Successful applicants will receive a Pre-admission Notice from Nanjing University (Doctoral applicants will also receive a Personal Statement confirmed with the supervisor’s signature).

4. Applicants who receive the Pre-admission Notice must log in to the Chinese Government Scholarship application system  before March 17, 2026, to complete online registration and application (Agency No.: “10284”, Program Category: “Type B”). Before submission, please carefully read the “Information System Applicant User Guide” and the “Chinese Government Scholarship Application Document Checklist“. When submitting the application, upload the Pre-admission Notice from Nanjing University (Doctoral applicants must also upload the Personal Statement with the supervisor’s signature). (If you have already submitted the application before receiving the Pre-admission Notice, please withdraw it first. After uploading the Pre-admission Notice, resubmit the application.) Applicants who receive the Pre-admission Notice from Nanjing University but fail to submit the application in the CSC system as required before March 17, 2026, will be deemed to have voluntarily waived the university’s recommendation opportunity.

※ Documents not in Chinese or English must be accompanied by a notarized or officially issued Chinese or English translation.

※ Applicants are responsible for the accuracy and authenticity of the submitted information and documents. If any falsification is discovered, the applicant’s admission eligibility will be revoked.

Please ensure that the materials submitted on http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/ are consistent with those on https://nju.17gz.org/. The China Scholarship Council (CSC) will organize experts to conduct the final review of applicants recommended by the university. The application materials will serve as a crucial basis for CSC’s final admission decision (Please note: Not every applicant recommended by the university will ultimately receive the scholarship).

  1. After the university receives the final admission list confirmed by the CSC, applicants will be promptly notified via email and system messages, and admission notices and other relevant documents will be mailed to new students. (The announcement date for the final admission results is currently undetermined. Please pay attention to further notifications from the university. For reference only, the results were announced in early July last year.)
  2. New students will commence their studies at Nanjing University in early September 2026. The specific registration date will be indicated on the admission notice.
  3. During registration, new students must present the following documents for the university’s verification of scholarship eligibility: the Nanjing University Admission Notice, the JW201 Visa Application Form (physical or electronic copy), the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners, and the original highest academic certificate (if the original is not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English translation is also required). Failure to pass this verification will result in cancellation of the scholarship qualification.
