Young Leaders' Program 2025 (YLP)

The Young Leaders’ Program (YLP) is one of the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Programs, initiated in 2001. YLP aims to cultivate future national leaders in Asian and other countries, establish friendly international relationships, and enhance policy planning activities by forming a network among national leaders who gain a deeper understanding of Japan.

Young public administrators, business managers, and legal professionals expected to play active roles as future national leaders in Asian and other countries are eligible to apply for the YLP program.

  • Allowance: 242,000 JPY per month
  • Education Fees: Tuition, matriculation, and entrance examination fees are exempted.
  • Traveling Costs: Airline tickets from the home country to Japan and vice versa are provided.

The recruitment and nomination of candidates to the Embassy of Japan are conducted by recommending institutions. The selection process includes:

  1. First Screening: Conducted by the host universities (document screening and interview).
  2. Second Screening: Conducted by the YLP Committee established by MEXT.
  3. Finalization: Selection results finalized by MEXT.

Recommending institutions are government bodies and relevant organizations in eligible countries qualified by MEXT to recruit and nominate candidates for the YLP program. MEXT designates courses for each recommending institution to nominate candidates.

The deadline might vary. Please reach out to the Japan embassy in your country for specific details.
