ABOUT AYDF

ASEAN Youth Digital Forum is a flagship project for furthering the interests of the youth population in the digital space. 

AYDF aims to help spreading knowledge, encouraging and preparing young people to be digital talents that understand their role in tackling those above mentioned challenges in a digital age, in order to contribute to the achievement of Single ASEAN Digital Community in the future, particularly through three major sectors, among others education, security, and economy.

We invite you to join our AYDF which always happening every 2 years (Biennial) in ASEAN Countries.

Youth Entrepreneurs and Intellectual Property Rights

The WIPO-ASEAN Youth Digital Forum (AYDF) 2023, co-organized by ASEAN Youth Organization and World Intellectual Property Organization, addressed the challenges and opportunities in ASEAN digital Economy. At the same time AYDF promoted youth entrepreneurship and strengthen intellectual property rights framework in the ASEAN region through intricately curated capacity building programs.

The year of 2023, the WIPO-ASEAN Youth Digital Forum successfully gathered young leaders and change makers from Southeast Asia who are keen to share their thoughts about various persisting challenges and opportunities in our society and further, help develop and implement international projects. AYDF was conducted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from November 15-17, 2023.

Public Forum 1

The public forum is capped at 150 participants and offers several advantages. Attendees will receive a meal + coffee breaks during the forum and have the opportunity to network with like-minded youth leaders specializing in various fields such as Business Studies, Management, Digital Business Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Business Analytics, among others.

Please note that flight support and hotel accommodation are not included. Airport transfer is available with prior registration.

  1. The public forum is capped at 150 participants and offers several advantages. Attendees will receive a meal and refreshments during the forum and have the opportunity to network with like-minded youth leaders specializing in various fields such as Business Studies, Management, Digital Business Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Business Analytics, among others.
  2. The public forum attendees will be able to attend the knowledgeable panel discussions and also get a free of charge for expert one on one consultation with our expert resources present there.
  3. Please note that flight support is not included, and no hotel accommodations will be provided for participants. Participants are responsible to cover all their expenses, including the accommodation, and travel costs.
  4. Eligible countries for participation include Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Vietnam.
  5. We will be providing you a certificate of participation for the public forum.

  7. Meals during the program will be provided. (2 Tea Breaks and 1 Lunch)

Intending participants are required to fill out a registration form, consisting of:

  1. Personal information/biodata.
  2. Applicants will be shortlisted on a rolling basis.
  3. Only selected participants are allowed to enter the forum.
  4. Please notice that the organizer will not accept on spot registration.

  1. Individuals of ASEAN and Timor Leste nationalities and domicile in one of ASEAN Countries and Timor Leste, aged between 18 and 35 years old (as of October 2023), are eligible to apply.
  2. Proficiency in both written and spoken English is a requirement as the sessions will take place in English.
  3. Applicants should have received a minimum of two doses of COVID-19 vaccination.
  4. Differently abled individuals  are strongly encouraged to submit their applications.
  5. Entrepreneurs working in any sector of the digital economy are encouraged to apply. Additionally, educational background in domains like Business studies, Management, Digital Business technology, AI,  Business analytics etc are encouraged to apply.
  6. People working in startups/SMEs or MSMEs focused on digital economy related sectors and activities are also encouraged to apply.
  7. Candidates should possess a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience and must either be currently employed in institutions related to the digital economy, youth entrepreneurship, and intellectual property rights, or be pursuing post graduation degree or above in a related field.
  8. Candidates must be willing to commit to develop 1 training session (group) to the business community within 6 months after the forum in Kuala Lumpur.
  9. Prepare an essay before you apply the funding. The essay detail will be explained on the “ESSAY GUIDELINE” Section below.
  1. Submit the document in PDF format and name it as follows: “Delegate_Name_Essay_AYDF” (e.g., AbhishekVats_Essay_AYDF).
  2. Word limit is minimum of 500 words and maximum 800 words.
  3. Use Times New Roman font with Headings in font size 14 (BOLD) and Body in font size 12 (justified alignment).
  4. Include a title with your name in the document.
  5. The essay will be scored on the following criteria: clarity of thought, creativity, research quality, formatting, and overall presentation as these will be considered in the evaluation.
  6. After the an applicant finished the essay, please upload the essay to your Google Drive and change the view setting to “Everyone with the link can view.”

Please prepare an essay on one of the following topics:

1. Leveraging Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for Digital Innovation:
Explain how patents, trademarks, and copyrights help protect your innovative platform. What are the specific advantages and limitations of each?

2. Empowering Youth Entrepreneurship in the Digital Economy:
Identify and discuss specific opportunities for youth-led startups in the digital economy, such as in e-commerce, app development, or digital services. What strategies can be employed to maximize these opportunities?

3. Building Collaborative Networks for Youth Entrepreneurs:
Discuss the potential for cross-border partnerships among young entrepreneurs in ASEAN and Timor Leste. What are the key considerations for such collaborations to be successful?

4. Policy and Legal Frameworks for Youth Entrepreneurship and IPR:
What are the key elements that should be included in a supportive policy framework addressing the unique challenges of youth entrepreneurship and IPR in the digital age?

What is the selection process like?

Aspiring delegates are required to fill out a registration form, consisting of:

Is there any airport transfer for Public Forum 1 participants?

The airport transfer or shuttle route is only from the airport (KLIA 1 or KLIA 2) to the Sunway Resort Hotel, Selangor Malaysia. If you stay in another hotel, you may consider another transportation option.

Is full attendance mandatory throughout the forum duration?

Yes, full attendance is required. Delegates must also commit to developing one training session for the business community within six months after the forum.

What is the dress code for the forum?

Delegates should wear business or formal attire during the event. Additionally, please bring your national costume for the cultural night.

Is proficiency in English mandatory for participants?

Yes, delegates must be proficient in both written and spoken English.

I have a disability. Can I still apply?

Absolutely. We strongly encourage individuals with disabilities to apply.

How many days will the AYDF last?

The AYDF will span 3 days, taking place from November 15-17, 2023, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. But, the Fully Funded Delegates are required to arrive 1 day before the event start (14 November) and leave 1 day after the program finish (18 November).

What benefits do fully-funded AYDF delegates receive?

How long will I receive the certificate?

For both participants and delegates of AYDF 2023, certificates will be sent approximately one month after the event concludes.

How will I receive my certificate?

Certificates will be delivered electronically via email. Please ensure that the email address you provided during registration is accurate and accessible, as this is where your certificate will be sent

I do not have citizenship from an ASEAN country. Can I take part in this event?

For now, this activity is prioritized for ASEAN Member States and Timor Leste citizens.

Will the committee cover transportation and accommodation for the public forum participants?

There is no flight or any transport support and no accommodation will be provided for participants. Participants are responsible for covering all their expenses, including the accommodation, and travel costs.

Do I need a business education or experience background to be involved in this event?

A background related to Business, Management, Digital Business Technology, Artificial Intelligence and any related studies would be a plus, but anyone with any background can still register for this program as long as you have the interest to learn more about digital economy, youth entrepreneurship, and intellectual property rights!

What is the difference between “participant” and “delegate”?

Participants will attend the Public Forum on Day 1 only, whereas Delegates will participate in all three days of the event. Delegates are fully funded by the organizers and should attend the entire programs from 15-17 November.

Do you have to pay a registration fee to register for AYDF?

There is no registration fee for this event.
