East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship 2025

The East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship is an esteemed opportunity for master’s and doctoral students from Asia, the Pacific, and the United States. This fellowship provides full funding to pursue graduate study at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM), while participating in educational, cultural, and leadership programs at the East-West Center. The program fosters a diverse, international community of future leaders.

Individuals who are citizens or permanent residents of the following countries are eligible to apply:

  • Southeast Asia: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam
  • Pacific Region: American Samoa, Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Northern Marianas, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis & Futuna Islands
  • South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka
  • East Asia: China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, Russia, Taiwan

Bachelor’s Degree: Applicants must hold a 4-year bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
Grade Point Average: A minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in the last four semesters or six quarters of undergraduate study and in all post-baccalaureate work is required.

The East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowships support graduate study at the University of Hawai‘i in fields that align with the goals and objectives of the East-West Center. Fellowships are awarded annually through an international competition.

  • University Application:
  • If you are not already enrolled as a classified graduate student at UH Mānoa, you must apply to the university for the fall semester by December 1. The UH online application system opens on August 1 each year for the following year’s admissions.

  • Ensure all supporting documents for both your UH admissions office and department applications are completed by January 10, even if the UH departmental deadline is later.
