About Japan-ASEAN Youth Summit (JAYS) 2026

The Japan-ASEAN Youth Summit (JAYS) is an international platform that connects high school students from Japan, ASEAN Member States, and Timor-Leste to collaborate, learn, and lead change for a better future. Through a four-day program of expert lectures, hands-on workshops, site visits, and cross-cultural exchanges, participants will co-create ideas addressing regional challenges around education and climate resilience.

This year’s theme, “Designing an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” echoes ASEAN’s 2025 Chairmanship vision of Inclusivity and Sustainability—ensuring that every voice matters in shaping our shared tomorrow.  Co-organized by Multilateral Interaction with Students (MIS) and ASEAN Youth Organization (AYO), the program is designed for wider interaction among young leaders across Asia. It has included networking, collaboration, and the opportunity to learn from top experts on various topics that could provide insights into academic progression and future careers for Japan and ASEAN youth high schoolers!

Objectives

The Japan-ASEAN Youth Summit (JAYS) is more than a gathering. It is a bridge connecting young leaders across Asia. Each year, the summit is guided by clear and purposeful objectives designed to empower participants and strengthen regional collaboration.

Social Impacts

Since its inception, the Japan–ASEAN Youth Summit (JAYS) has become a vital platform for empowering young people across Asia. The 2025 edition marked a milestone as the first international exchange program dedicated to high school students from Japan and ASEAN, successfully fostering real-world learning, cross-cultural dialogue, and collaborative problem-solving.

Building on this strong foundation, JAYS 2026 aims to achieve an even greater social impact. Through immersive site visits and expert-led sessions, participants will engage with leading organizations across sectors such as public health, innovation, and sustainable development. These hands-on experiences strengthen students’ understanding of regional challenges and inspire them to think critically, act collaboratively, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Accessibility remains at the heart of JAYS. The program’s low participation cost allows students from diverse economic backgrounds to join, ensuring inclusivity and democratizing global opportunities for youth. In 2025, many delegates attended their first international event through JAYS, underscoring the summit’s role in breaking barriers and expanding educational access. The program also demonstrated strong online engagement, reaching over 250,000 viewers across social media and amplifying its impact far beyond the participants themselves.

As JAYS continues to rotate host countries each year, the initiative deepens regional cooperation by exposing students to a variety of social and cultural contexts. These cross-border connections nurture long-term networks of young leaders who are committed to equity, sustainability, and partnership between Japan and ASEAN.

In an era of both shared challenges and unprecedented diversity, JAYS 2026 stands as a space where youth can learn, lead, and collaborate toward a more inclusive and sustainable region. With continued support from partner institutions and the dedication of its participants, the summit will keep inspiring a generation of globally minded, socially conscious future leaders.
