ASEAN-JAPAN Scholarship Undergraduate (fully Funded)

The ASEAN-JAPAN Program, launched in 2016, aims to develop global human resources who can work in Japanese companies. Students will receive scholarships for up to five years. This is an original scholarship program of Asia University, which boasts of having accepted more than 100
international students from seven ASEAN countries to date.

Overview

Five-year Integrated Curriculum:

      • Study at the Intensive Japanese Course (1 year) → Japanese Language Study
      • Study at the Undergraduate Course (4 years) → Study basic skills as a member of society through liberal arts and specialized subjects at the undergraduate course of your choice

Developing global human resources who can play an active role in Japanese companies:

      • (1) Cultivate Japanese language skills that can be used in business situations
        (2) Develop sufficient knowledge and understanding of Japanese affairs, including Japanese
        business culture.
        (3) Acquire the knowledge and foreign language skills necessary to play an active role in the
        corporate world.
        (4) Cultivate basic skills for working adults through work experience at companies and local
        governments.

Intensive Japanese Course

      • 1 academic year of AU Intensive Course, and
      • 4 years of regular undergraduate course at AU (5 years in total) *Students can elect courses from the following departments: Business Administration, Data Science, Economics, Law, International Relations, Multicultural Communication, or Contemporary Sociology.

Regular Undergraduate Course

      •  4-year AU undergraduate program* Students may select courses from the following departments: Business Administration, Data Science, Economics, Law, Relations, Multicultural Communication, or Sociology.

Number of Candidates: 20 or less in total of above courses

Applicants must fulfill all the following conditions:

    • (1) Those who have nationality in any of the following ASEAN Countries except dual citizens in ASEAN
      country and Japan: Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar,
      Laos
    • (2) Those who fulfill the following requirements either a. or b.
      a. Current senior high school student who intends to graduate by March 2026, OR
      b. Those who have already graduated from high school between March 16, 2024, and March 15,
      2025.
    • (3) Those who finished or expected to finish the 12 years (11 years for Myanmar) of education method in
      their country
    • (4) Those who hold the following Japanese language ability:
        • Intensive Japanese Course: Those who hold N4 or N3 of the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency
          Test), and who have an incentive to continue studying in Japan.
        • Regular Undergraduate Course: Those who passed the AU’s regular entrance exam for international
          students Type C, and hold JLPT N2 or N1, and who have an incentive
          to continue studying in Japan.
    • (5) Those who marked good records in high school. Mother Language, English, and Mathematics should
      be high ranked.
    • (6) Applicants must be healthy both in physically and mentally to study in Japanese university.
      Applicants are required to turn in the medical certificate officially issued by a medical organization.
    • (7) Applicants must arrive in Japan before March 31st of the year they enter AU.
    • (8) Students must apply and receive the Student Visa before they arrive in Japan.
    • (9) Students should keep a close cooperation with AU even after graduation and try to improve the level
      of trust relationship between Japan and their countries.
    • (10) The following students are not applicable to this scholarship. In the case it turned out after the
      applicants passed the screening test, they must decline themselves.
  • ①Those who has never finished 12 years (11 years for Myanmar) of educational method before
    entering IJC or Undergraduate Course
  • ②Those who cannot arrive in Japan by the day which AU specified
  • ③Those who already hold the “Student” visa and affiliate in the Japanese university or any other
    educational institute.
  • ④Those who intend to receive another scholarship from a foundation other than AU (including their
    country’s government organization), including those who plan to receive scholarship when apply
    and start receiving when arriving in Japan

Intensive Japanese Course Period: 5 years (Including 1 year of Intensive Japanese Course)

      • Requirements: 1. To fulfill the recommendation
      • Requirement 2. To hold GPA 2.45 every year

Regular Undergraduate Course Period: 4 years

Requirement: To hold GPA 2.45 every year In the case that the IJC or regular course students take a leave for more than 2 months in a raw, they cannot receive the scholarship while they leave. In the case that the students got in the situation, which is separately set, the scholarship will be revoked.

    • (1) Tuition & Fees for Intensive Japanese Course
    • (2) Tuition and Fees for the Undergraduate Course
    • (3) Study Materials and Application Fee (4) Share House Utility Fee (First 2 Years Only)

*Scholarship students are responsible for their own travel expenses to and from Japan, and overseas
travel insurance from the time of travel to Japan until April 2nd.

Intensive Japanese Course

    • (1) 1st screening is done based on the documents which are submitted to Asia University.
    • (2) To the applicants who passed the 1st screening, the 2nd screening will be done by the interview
      test in their country. The interview will entirely be done in Japanese.
    • (3) Those who passed the 2nd screening will be accepted as scholarship students at Asia University.
    • (4) The result will be noticed by the way and date of AU appoints separately.

*Even if you do not pass the ASEAN Scholarship Exam, you may still be accepted as a privatelyfunded international student. In this case, the scholarship will not be provided.


Regular Undergraduate Course

    • (1) Students apply for the AU’s entrance examination for international students “Type C”
    • (2) Applicants take the interview test in October in their country
    • (3) AU accepts scholarship students from the ones who passed both Type C and the interview test
    • (4) The result will be noticed by the way and date of AU appoints separately.

(1)

    • Intensive Japanese Course: After the IJC with fulfilling the requirement for recommendation, considering the student’s will and academic records, students decide the course, and IJC recommends. The result will be announced by each faculty based upon the result of entrance examination (IJC) Academic Records and Interview).
    • Regular Undergraduate Course: Those who passed the AU entrance exam “Type C” and the interview test for scholarship can enter the undergraduate course at AU. If the applicant passed the “Type C” exam but failed the interview test, the applicant cannot receive the scholarship but can enter the AU as a private funded international student.

(2) Every course starts from April and ends in March, next year.

(3) Language in class is basically Japanese (except foreign language class)

(4) Bachelor’s degree will be conferred to those who fulfill the requirement of graduation.

(5) Scholarship students will be required to take courses designated as part of the ASEAN-JAPAN Program

Eligibility Criteria:
    • Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
    • Academic Background: Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Social/Cultural Anthropology, Political Sciences, Human Geography, or International Relations.
    • Final-year Undergraduates: Eligible to apply; degree and final results must be submitted by July 10, 2025.
    • Minimum CGPA: 2.75/4.0.
